Meet the Maker — David Carrott
I turn old silver and gold into new favourites. Using recycled metals and proper benchcraft, I make bespoke rings, necklaces and keepsakes that carry a story. After a long IT career in the States, I went back to study jewellery-making — a sort of personal reboot — and haven’t looked back.
I studied “Jewellery 101” and an intensive model‑making and casting course at Northern Michigan University in 2018, where I also learned torch‑fusing Mokume Gane and working with layered copper–silver alloys. Those skills sit alongside traditional bench techniques in my Devizes UK workshop: hammer, file, polish, repeat
The name, The Recycled Metal Smith is not just about recycled metal but also about my own reinvention as a jeweller. I’m committed to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle — every piece uses 100% recycled precious metal wherever possible, and heirloom remakes are some of my favourite projects.

“I had a lovely necklace my husband bought for me, but I wasn’t wearing it because it just didn’t hang well. I asked David to have a go at making it wearable. David gave me couple of options with clearly presented drawings and I chose one alteration that he executed, just as I wanted. I was thrilled with the new design of the necklace as it perfectly matched my first wedding anniversary earrings.”
“David’s creativity and love of art are unmatched. I have two original David Carrott pieces and love wearing them—-a pendant and a ring. I watch his website and Facebook page for new pieces. David is very kind and brilliant. I enjoy every conversation with him. He truly takes great care in his work. It is definitely his calling. I cannot wait to make another purchase.”
