Jumping Fish - Sterling silver

£299.00

This is a circular box, a cylinder if you like, with a simple friction lip holding the top on.

Hand made from sterling silver, this trinket box is large enough to hold several loose rings or whatever. It has a nice heavy feel to it, as it is made with a generous gauge of silver (925).

The lid art was inspired by a documentary that mentioned a Roman Cup, with an intricate and overlapping 3-dimensional design using a blend of repoussé, or “pushing” the metal and soldered castings.

So I thought I would try that here.

The fish head and body, along with the ripples, are pushed up from the underside of the lid using repoussé techniques and the fish tail is sand casted from a clay model and subsequently soldered into position, along with the main dorsal fin.

The great splash of water streaming of the fishes tail is a very thin sheet of sterling silver that has had the edges melted to look like water drops, suspended in time, on the edge of a thin sheet of water.
