Buzzard Necklace

£49.99

The Buzzard Necklace — Birds of Wiltshire Collection

The buzzard in Wiltshire is a common, broad-winged raptor often seen soaring above woodlands, hedgerows, and open fields; typically the common buzzard (Buteo buteo), it has variable brown plumage with a pale underwing pattern, feeds on small mammals, carrion and birds, and has adapted well to the English countryside, becoming one of the most familiar birds of prey across the region.

Design and Making

  • Handmade beginning with an original model sculpted in oven-bake clay.

  • The model was translated into metal using the ancient craft of sand casting, cast first in a silver-copper alloy and refined into a permanent master for repeat casting.

  • Every bird is meticulously hand finished,

  • Each finished piece is cast in sterling silver, and often in Argentium silver — the material I prefer — made from collected cut-offs and reclaimed precious metal. This use of recycled metal is integral to the work: 100% recycled precious metals, crafted in Britain.

Natural Accuracy and Story

  • The necklace honours the Buzzard’s distinctive silhouette: The square wings and fan tail.

  • It reflects the kite’s dual nature as both hunter and scavenger, and its adaptability to the Wiltshire’s arable fields and open skies.

Wearability and Intent

  • A bespoke, no-gender-bias design intended for anyone who appreciates wildlife, British natural heritage, and meaningful craft.

  • Subtle enough for everyday wear, detailed enough to start conversations about conservation and local nature.

Why this piece matters

  • Handcrafted using traditional techniques and modern recycled precious metal practice — a piece that connects craft, place, and purpose.

  • Each necklace is a small, wearable celebration of a species that epitomizes recovery and coexistence.

The Metrics

  • Available in sterling or Argentium silver. Made in Britain from 100% recycled precious metals.

  • The chain is sterling 1.8 mm Oval Belcher with lobster claw and extension allowing it to be 16”, 17” or 18”

  • The entire necklace weighs 8.0 grams

  • Marked with makers mark and 925

  • Lobster claw
